Why does the basil plant on the front of a home have the shape of a fish?
Why does it look like a fish’s head?
And how do you tell if you’re dealing with basil?
A basil plant in Japan.
A basil seed on the right is from the same plant.
When the seed of a basil plant is cut open, a plant resembling a fish can be seen.
This is called kakuri.
The shape of the fish is because the plant was cut open with a sword.
The fish has an open mouth, which is what gives it a fish-like appearance.
A basil bud, a seed of the same species, is also visible.
The basil plant has a lot of water in it, so it’s hard to see.
In addition to being a vegetable, basil also has a medicinal value.
According to the Encyclopedia of Food, Dr. John M. Tarnopolsky, the author of “The Garden of Eden,” writes,The basil seed is believed to have medicinal properties, and the plant has been used for centuries for medicinal purposes, including in China, India, the United States, and Europe.
So how did basil grow so long without having its shape changed?
It’s a mystery.
If the plant were really this big, the size of a chicken or a goat, it would take at least 100 years for it to grow from seed.
However, this basil plant was only planted about 300 years ago.
That’s more than 10 years ago, according to a study in the journal Scientific Reports.
This is not the first time a basil seed has had a fishlike appearance, either.
A basil seed from Japan was discovered in 2011.
“It’s the only one in the world with a fish shape,” said the researcher, David Strom, who studies plant evolution at the University of Michigan.
The scientists at the plant’s research institute, The Basil Garden, said the shape is a sign that the plant is having a hard time keeping its moisture.
“We don’t know why,” said Yuki Kiyoshi, who leads the plant breeding program at The Basil Gardens.
“This is an unexpected result.
We can’t say anything for sure yet.”
