Launching on a single rocket is no easy feat.
The Falcon 9 Heavy launch vehicle needs to be at least 10% more powerful than the Falcon 9’s engines to achieve a safe return.
It also needs to have a bigger payload bay, and it needs to use an engine that can withstand more than 3,000 pounds of thrust, according to the company’s official launch manifest.
For all of these reasons, SpaceX hopes to launch the Denova space shuttle again with a Falcon Heavy rocket in 2021.
And, it wants to launch it on that Falcon Heavy.
